When a diet is not a diet as I start on that journey to weight loss.

I make no bones about it….well not heavy ones anyway when I state that I know I am overweight and decided that this had gone on long enough, and one of the biggest problems I had was that diets can get monotonous or expensive if you join one of the weight clubs but now is the time to join the dieters. There is also a mother motive as I plan to be very slim when I step off the plane to see my youngest son who lives overseas.

So, I decided that the best thing to do is start to discover where I felt it affected me the most and that was to find out what energy values I needed to maintain my every day activity level, which due to my disabilities is not as much as I want but I do have some and with renewed vigour I actually could do this……

I needed to take my basic metabolic rate, times it by age, weight and height and then divide it by my level of activity and that would give me my energy values. It seemed so much better than just doing calories.

I am also the worlds pickiest eater and I do not like spicy foods so this diet had to work for me to stop it becoming boring.

I have tried weight watchers and slimming world but a lot of the foods were not to my liking, and then there is the cost on top of it for joining the group. It can become quite a dear do.

So, I started to look at the proteins I would need and seeing as I don’t eat red meat it could have turned into a nightmare, especially as I had not been eating enough protein. So, that was me due for a slapped wrist. I sat down with some people who knew more than I did and chatted about my really bad habits of not having enough vitamins, magnesium and all the other healthy things I need to take in my body.

Apparently my craving for sugar things was because my energy levels were very low, but in my defence I have to take 22 tablets a day for my disabilities and that makes me very tired but I have to start making an effort, and that includes letting going of the crutch I used for sugar levels…my sweets.

My face screwed up when told to have liver….that’s a no no from me as I will not eat red meat and very rarely have chicken, but I will eat fish so going to be eating a lot more of that, and those lovely vegetables your mum told you were good for you bit which I had avoided, but also to indulge in the fruit I love to eat.

So this will be quite a journey for me and I plan to update often with the weight I have lost, and put food suggestions up too. There will be no joining a group, no cost for following it and yes I will be getting helpful hints and tips of the experts. Depending on how well it goes…might even set up another site just for that.

I also plan to make this affordable for every day shopping……as we all know that the healthier the food the dearer it is…and I don’t plan to let my shopping costs increase.

      1. Hi
        I do, but I don’t want to overwhelm. 😃
Another I will share is don’t go out to fast food restaurants, for maybe 90 days ( I know it’s seemingly difficult ) but the rewards are worth it, why you do this is to see how your body works, reacts and know when your hungry or just thirsty…

        1. Hi Dave, I very rarely go to Restaurants and dislike fast food. I will certainly see how my body reacts when hungry….never thought of that but thank you. Don’t worry you won’t overwhelm ..there are some people who have logged on to my blog for help, advice and to feel they are not going through it on their own.

          2. morning Sue,
one of the best things to try to do in this life of maintaining or losing to maintain is eating windows, meaning certain hours in a day you eat then rest of the time fast ( not totally but meals ) for me its a 18/6 window meaning I in the 6 hour window say 10 am to 4pm as an example…the other 18 is water, coffee or tea…
I’m sure it may seem daunting to hear that but your body will love you for it

          4. Hi Sue,
I started out with Keto, and lost 35 pounds and when got to my goal, I go low carb…( 35-45 Carbs a day ) what I would recommend is start out by getting rid of food thats is high sugar, rid your self of sodas ( diet too ) and eat real food…
            to anwser your question…
in the morning I have “bullet proof coffee” which is real butter, real salt, Electrolyte drops, and almond milk…then my first meal is around 10ish I have protein, ( meat of some sort ) I’ll snack on almonds ( handful ) dinner, meat, small portion of veggies ( greener the better ) sugar free sweet ( sometimes ) need to drink water ( 45-50 oz per day )
I hope this helps a little,
please be free to ask more

          5. I will have a look at Keto….I drink a lot of spring water and have almonds too. Well done on the 35lb loss. Would it be possible for you to write pointers out and send it to pointsofsue@gmail.com and I will put it on a guest contribution. I know there are many people out there who are desperate to loose weight after lockdown, and I do believe you could help. Thank you as always. Sue x
