Disappointed today to read that the United States of America has declared that they will “take action” if Aung San Suu Kyi is not released from house arrest, nor the Government restored. Why do they feel they have to interfere in every spat?
The Myanmar de facto leader and the rest of the Government have been placed under house arrest and the Military have taken over. Ms Suu Kyi should think herself lucky that she has not been thrown out of her house and forced from the country through threat of bodily harm, rape and murder like the Rohingya.
It is an insult to those whose she has totally ignored that not only has she kept her Nobel Prize, but also that countries such as the United States of America are getting involved because of her house arrest. Where was the Americans when she stood by and did nothing, infact she did worse than nothing she actually refused to believe that the Rohingya were being beaten, raped and murdered in Myanmar, and actually tried to blame those fleeing.
Could it be the world has turned a blind eye and become deaf because they are yet another Muslim minority group that is having genocide committed against them?
When she turned away from the humane thing to do and that is protect the minorities then she trashed her own legacy, and I for one am not sorry that she is now under house arrest, and hope that she is not seen on the world stage again After all, she allowed the military and the rest of Myanmar to commit genocide knowing that she only had to speak out against their appalling treatment calling for better treatment and to stop the killings. Whilst it might have had little effect with the military it would have raised the world more to the Rohingya plight because a Nobel Prize Winner had brought it up….but instead she did nothing. My apologies she did do something….she blamed the victims. Straight out of the Despot handbook 101.
Whilst I feel sorry for the people of what was Burma they again did nothing whilst over 1 million people were persecuted, so how can they now scream persecution? It seems it is ok to persecute others but not them….
The leader and the people should have shown that they are a welcoming country, a country being built on helping others and if she had done this then the world would be there for her, but I doubt very many of the other countries will lose sleep over her being confined to her house again. Oh they will come out with the usual political comments… Well, we know the United States of America are threatening Myanmar and that is because Biden like his mentor Obama wants to be a War President.
I do not understand why they get into the White House and then want to declare war on people. Whatever you think of Donald Trump he didn’t do that and it shows the weakness of Biden that the Military did this when he took power and not before during Trump’s Presidency.
The White House said President Biden had been briefed about the situation and called upon the Myanmar military to release the leaders. ‘The United States opposes any attempt to alter the outcome of recent elections or impede Myanmar’s democratic transition, and will take action against those responsible if these steps are not reversed,’ the White House said in a statement. WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab added: ‘The democratic wishes of the people of Myanmar must be respected, and the National Assembly peacefully re-convened.’ WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres ‘strongly’ condemned the military’s detention of Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other leaders. ‘These developments represent a serious blow to democratic reforms in Myanmar,’ spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement. ‘We request the release of stakeholders including state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi who was detained today,’ WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
Japan’s foreign ministry said in a statement urging ‘the national army to quickly restore the democratic political system in Myanmar.’ ‘We call on the military to respect the rule of law, to resolve disputes through lawful mechanisms and to release immediately all civilian leaders and others who have been detained unlawfully,’ Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne added. WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed ‘grave concern about the latest situation in Myanmar,’ adding hopes that all parties would ‘exercise restraint.’ WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
Indonesia’s foreign minister likewise expressed ‘concern’ while also urging ‘self-restraint.’ WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
But Philippine presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the situation is an ‘internal matter.’ ‘Our primary concern is the safety of our people, he said. ‘Our armed forces are on standby in case we need to airlift them as well as navy ships to repatriate them if necessary.’ WHERE WAS THE CONDEMINATION WHEN GENOCIDE WAS BEING COMMITTED ON THE ROHINGYA?
I find it repulsive that the world is calling for the release of this Government and its de facto leader whilst doing nothing much really to bring them to the Hague for crimes against humanity because of their genocide activities. The Rohingya people have done nothing more than follow a different religion and we have read again and again how the women and girls are being raped, the children murdered, the men murdered and the women murdered and everything they do is a direct result of Suu Kyi doing nothing. She had a voice and a platform and like any tyrannical despot she blamed the victims.
Suu Kyi – a former democracy icon and Nobel peace prize winner whose image internationally has been in tatters over her handling of the Muslim Rohingya crisis – remains a deeply popular figure. Then let the people sort out their own problems. They told the world to butt out when we commented on the crisis affecting those fleeing and now we should follow their advice and leave them to it.
She should have been stripped of her peace prize as it is a farce that she has it, and she is not a peaceful woman….the bodies of those Rohingya who have fallen is testament to that. Lets see to the plight of the Rohingya and not the plight of those who without fear of justice have sat back and allowed the massacre. Put your sympathy where it belongs and it does not belong with Suu Kyi or the people of Myanmar.
