Now that the BBC have taken away the free TV licences for the over 75s, I feel it will do nothing more than clog up the courts system as it is quite simply an unacceptable tax on people who have paid all their lives for everything they have.
It is shameful that the BBC decided to take away their free licence as to a lot of elderly people the TV is all they have. My mum lives in a retirement village and during lockdown the TV was her companion and whilst I will make sure mum is not hit with this bill…can you imagine someone who has nobody to help them?
In some cases it is a difference between eating or heating or having to pay a bill that they really have paid for already and for what? Some over paid over hyped stars can walk away with a fortune….shame on them.

The BBC says ending them could prevent it from having to axe BBC Two, BBC Four, Radio 5 Live and other channels and radio stations. Critics have accused the corporation of exploiting pensioners to plug budget gaps when money could be saved elsewhere. However we know that the BBC has no idea how to save money as they have relied on the licence fee tax for too long, and that is the problem…they just think the money is theirs to spend as they wish.
Caroline Abrahams, of Age UK, said: ‘As things stand, more than half a million of the poorest pensioners will still have to pay for a licence, cut spending on other essentials like food or heating, give up TV altogether, or keep watching without a licence, in breach of the law. ‘Plus, there’s the over-75s whose income is just a few pounds or even pence too high for them to qualify for pension credit. As the disastrous impact of the BBC’s plan on some of our ‘oldest old’ becomes apparent, we hope this will bring the corporation and the Government back to the table.’
It is about time the BBC was defunded and made to raise their own funds. After all why should people be forced to pay for such a poor service, and one where the standard of programming is something not in their taste, and quite frankly smacks of anti British sentiment.
At one time the BBC were an asset to Britain but sadly that is now no longer true and it must in this day be made to find their own money and not threaten the elderly with fines, court and what could be jail as lets face it the BBC won’t care if you are 80 or 18….they just want your money.
Shame on them for taxing the elderly.
The Tory government cut BBC funding so they had to tax the elderly. Sorry Karen

I think you will find that in any business the Government will only pay for so much before it has to become self funded. The BBC stated they would continue with the funding for the over 75s, but as usual we know we cannot trust the BBC. As for Karen….wow..just wow…how original (yawn)…how on earth did you manage to make that name up all on your own?

Yes, the BBC said they would continue to fund the elderly however obviously could not foresee their budget being slashed.
I don’t need to come up with anything creative…..Karen does just fine

The BBC were always aware of the costs but they do what companies always do when spending other people’s money….they spent too much. They knew this was coming and should have prepared for it, and it is their greed and arrogance that is going to cost the elderly. As for the name calling….well as stated it doesn’t bother me one jot as I have been called worse by senior ranks in the Army, and there criticism meant something as they were people to be looked upto… whereas you are the opposite and it means absolutely diddly squat….and that’s the difference between you and me. as you are permanently offended and a sheeple by the looks of things, especially having to use the well worn and now boring “Karen” name In fact is it really an insult as my friend Karen lives 3 doors away and she is the funniest person I know…..but if it makes you feel a little bit better name calling then fill your boots, but you need to find someone who is bothered….
