On this day 75 years ago the flower of our youth took the fight against the Nazis to Europe.
I cannot begin to imagine the death, horror and destruction that met them as they ran onto the beaches, but I know that each man being there did not flinch from their duty and task even knowing that they could be killed.
It is this bravery and heroism that help to free Europe, and gave me my freedom and yes I do weep tears of pride when I see these old men remembering. They have earned the respect and I for one thank god that when evil and darkness reared its ugly head, that the shining light and bravery of these servicemen and all those who fought in WW1 and 2 defeated Germany and its allies.
Mine is a debt that can never be repaid and I know as a former soldier that they are the ones who are my hero’s and the stuff of legends.
